THE MOTRUZ
Overview
The Motruz is a colossal deep-sea predator that lurks in the Dark Sea Region on the Dark Side of VOI 700 D. As the largest known fish on the planet, the Motruz dominates the abyssal waters, growing up to 15 meters in length and weighing as much as 18 tons.
Lacking eyesight, the Motruz has evolved echolocation and electroreception to navigate the eternal darkness of its environment. Using its powerful electroplax organ, it can emit stunning electrical discharges, temporarily paralyzing prey and fending off threats. With its massive, serrated teeth and surprising speed, the Motruz is an efficient ambush predator, capable of attacking both deep-sea creatures and surface-dwelling organisms.
Physique and Appearance
- Size: Up to 15 meters in length
- Weight: Up to 18 tons
- Body Shape: Torpedo-like, built for bursts of speed
- Skin: Dark-grey, smooth and hydrodynamic
- Speed: Up to 40 km/h
Special Features:
- Echolocation and Electroreception instead of Eyesight: Blind, relies on echolocation and electroreception
- Electroplax Organ: The Motruz can generate powerful electric shocks, capable of stunning prey or defending against attackers.
- Serrated Teeth: Rows of razor-sharp fangs, including two prominent canines used for gripping large prey.
- Surprising Speed: Despite its bulk, the Motruz can burst forward at high velocity, allowing it to ambush prey from the darkness.
Game Mechanics
- Armor Class (AC): 15 (thick skin and size)
- Hit Points (HP): 120 (16d12 + 40)
- Speed: 40 ft. (swimming)
Attacks
- Bite: +10 to hit, 3d10 + 6 piercing damage. A creature hit must make a DC 15 Strength saving throw or be grappled.
- Electric Shock: The Motruz releases a burst of electricity in a 20-foot radius, forcing all creatures in range to make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or take 4d8 lightning damage and be stunned until the end of their next turn.
Special Abilities
- Echolocation: The Motruz automatically detects movement within 100 feet, even in total darkness.
- Electroreception: The Motruz can sense living creatures through their bioelectric fields, even those attempting to hide.
- Abyssal Camouflage: While motionless, the Motruz is invisible in the deep sea.
Behavior
- Diet: Omnivorous, consuming both microorganisms and large prey
- Hunting Pattern: Prefers ambush tactics, lurking in deep trenches before striking with bursts of speed
- Activity Pattern: Most active in geothermal zones, where prey is abundant
Survival Strategies:
- Deep-Sea Dominance: The Motruz is an apex predator and has no natural enemies.
- Ambush Hunting: Prefers to strike from the darkness, using its electrical abilities to disorient prey.
- Scavenger Tendencies: Will consume dead creatures and wreckage, making it a dangerous hazard for submerged structures.
