Context & Historical Background
Crafted by retired hydro-engineer Gerhard Lentz in a basalt-cooled brew-cave in Morningstar, Lebensfreude Lager followed a fiercely purist, adapted Reinheitsgebot. Only 25 kegs left the Pilswerke each quarter; every one was raffled to licensed taverns, turning its keg-badge into a status trophy. The nationalisation of enterprises after the founding of the Federal Confederation and the introduction of Communardism (2631) dismantled Pilswerke Inc., erasing Lebensfreude from legal taps and elevating surviving barrels to legendary contraband.
Ingredients & Process
Glacier-Melt Water – gravity-fed from the pristine springs at the headwaters of the Arla River; credited for the beer’s crisp finish. Atrana Barley Malt – hydroponically grown on nutrient tables outside Morningstar, kilned over low-heat basalt vents. Noble Hop Cones – a delicate cultivar raised in shaded Atrana terraces; low bitterness, floral nose. Kalt-Yeast 62 – a bottom-fermenting strain Lentz smuggled from the Last Frontier’s cryo-stores; lagered at a steady 8 °C in the mountain vault.
