FUNERAL HOME OF MORNINGSTAR

Overview

  • Location: SE Sustainability Avenue 3, Morningstar
  • Surroundings: Situated centrally in Morningstar’s Public Services Ring, adjacent to the Federal Canteen Service of Morningstar.

The Funeral Home of Morningstar serves as a vital institution within the Eastern Equatorial Section of the Habitual Belt. It facilitates the sustainable burial practices of Morningstar’s community, aligning with the ecological and cultural principles of the Federal Confederation. Overseen by a GAIA-appointed Federal Mortician, the Funeral Home is a cornerstone of Morningstar’s commitment to the cyclical flow of life and death.

Architectural Significance

The Funeral Home of Morningstar reflects the natural and practical aesthetic of the region:

  • Construction Materials: Built from locally sourced wood and stone, emphasizing sustainability and harmony with the surrounding environment.
  • Design Aesthetic: The building incorporates the rustic charm of Morningstar, featuring sloped roofs and carved wooden accents inspired by traditional designs from Earth’s pioneer era.
  • Lighting and Ventilation: The interior is naturally ventilated, with strategically placed windows that optimize sunlight during the day. Bioluminescent fungi provide ambient lighting.

Building Structure

The Funeral Home is thoughtfully designed across two floors to accommodate both functional and ceremonial needs:

Ground Floor:

  • Reception Area: A welcoming space where families consult with the Federal Mortician about funeral arrangements and rituals.
  • Preparation Room: A secured area where the deceased are prepared for composting, including being wrapped in biodegradable shrouds with natural dyes.
  • Composting Chambers: State-of-the-art sealed units where bodies undergo composting, using a mix of organic materials like wood chips and straw to aid decomposition.
  • Storage Room: Contains shrouds, ceremonial items, and composting materials essential for the funeral process.

Second Floor:

  • Reflection Room: A tranquil space for families to gather, share memories, and honor their loved ones before the composting process begins.
  • Mortician’s Office: A workspace for the Federal Mortician to manage administrative tasks, records, and liaise with grieving families.

Roles and Responsibilities

The Funeral Home operates with a dedicated team that upholds the community's funerary traditions and ensures efficient composting practices:

  • Federal Mortician (1): Responsible for overseeing funerary practices, conducting ceremonies, and managing composting operations.
  • Assistant Morticians (4): Support the Federal Mortician in body preparation, composting, and maintaining records.
  • Ceremonial Guides (6): Facilitate processions and ceremonies, ensuring all rituals are conducted respectfully and efficiently.
  • Maintenance Staff (2): Maintain the composting chambers and ensure the facility remains in optimal condition.

Shift Work

The Funeral Home operates on a three-shift system to provide uninterrupted services:

  • First Shift (6:00 AM - 2:00 PM): Dedicated to consultations, body preparation, and composting operations.
  • Second Shift (2:00 PM - 10:00 PM): Focuses on ceremonies, family interactions, and facility maintenance.
  • Third Shift (10:00 PM - 6:00 AM): Ensures security and monitors ongoing composting processes.

Security Measures

To protect its operations and maintain the sanctity of its purpose, the Funeral Home employs strict security measures:

  • Restricted Access: Sensitive areas, including the composting chambers, are accessible only to authorized personnel and grieving families.
  • Analog Alert System: An Analog Siren System is in place to alert the Local Sheriff’s Office in the event of an emergency.
  • Patrolling Deputies: Regular patrols by deputies ensure the facility’s safety and security.
