THE FIRETOWN POST
Overview
- Location: Central District, Firetown
- Address: E Market Road 7
- Surroundings: Close to Firetown’s trading quarter and black market, reinforcing its role as the Individualist voice in the Dark Side settlement.
The Firetown Post is a weekly newspaper in the Gamma Age on VOI 700 D, printed and published by the Individualist Party. Officially registered as *party information* rather than a press outlet, it has been published since 2634 as the political counterweight to the Weekly Gazette.
The Post has a circulation of roughly 1,000 copies, making it the second most-read medium of the Federal Confederation after the Gazette.
History
Founded in 2634, shortly after the passage of the Independent Press Act, the Firetown Post was established to challenge the dominance of the Communard-controlled Federal News Agency. With Firetown as its editorial base, the newspaper quickly became the mouthpiece of the Individualists, advocating for personal freedom, opposition to Communard policies, and criticism of the Federal Library and News systems.
From the start, its classification as *party information* meant that it was not subject to oversight by the Federal News Agency, giving the Individualists freedom to circulate unregulated political messaging.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Editor-in-Chief: Appointed directly by the Individualist Party leadership.
- Editorial Team: Party members who write opinion pieces, speeches, and campaign content.
- Distribution Clerks: Coordinate transport of issues across the Confederation.
Distribution
The Firetown Post is distributed weekly:
- Firetown: Available every Friday morning.
- Hope & Morningstar: Delivered by the Federal Courier Service on Saturday.
- New Kourou: Delivered Monday, with smaller circulation.
Unlike the Federal News Lounges (FNLs), the Firetown Post is not available in public pavilions; it is circulated to party members, workplaces sympathetic to Individualists, and select reading halls.
Public Perception and Criticism
Because the Firetown Post is formally categorized as party information, the Federal News Agency does not review its content for journalistic quality.
- Communard Criticism: Accused of spreading misinformation and lacking factual accuracy.
- Individualist Position: Portrays itself as the *only* independent voice, rejecting the Weekly Gazette as Communard propaganda.
- Citizen Views: Many ExoHumans distrust it as biased, while others welcome it as a rare counterbalance to the Gazette.
