FEDERAL LUMI MANUFACTORY (FLM)

Overview

The Federal Lumi Manufactory (FLM) produces bioluminescent lighting devices based on the *Luminofera dualis* mushroom. Founded in 2633 under Aisha Patel, the plant supplies fixed and portable “Lumi” systems for routes, vehicles, public buildings, and households—prioritizing low-energy illumination consistent with the Federal Confederation’s sustainability mandates.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Materials: Timber post-and-beam over a volcanic-stone plinth; mycelium-brick infill; poly-glass clerestories.
  • Floors: 1 main production level with a small mezzanine office gallery.
  • Design Aesthetic: Practical, cleanable surfaces; separated “wet” grow rooms and “dry” assembly bays; clear sight-lines for supervision.
  • Lighting (No Electric High-Bays): Clerestories and light wells tuned for ambient twilight; after-hours, hooded oil lamps and baseboard *Luminofera dualis* runs.
  • Ventilation / Climate: Passive stack chimneys and wind scoops; gravity-fed misters and shade baffles in grow rooms; no powered HVAC.
  • Energy Use (Low-Draw): Process heat and hot water from a district biogas loop; hand/foot-powered tools; analog instruments and gauges.

Building Structure

  • Receiving & Wash-In: Pallet vestibule; substrate sacks and timber trays; boot-wash and tool dip.
  • Substrate Prep & Inoculation Room: Pasteurizing kettles, tray fillers, inoculation benches; red-light task lamps.
  • Cultivation Halls (2): Tray racks with humidity screens; gravity misters; temperature/hygro boards; quiet inspection aisles.
  • Conditioning & Harvest Bay: Gentle scraping tables; cap sorting; gel/strip infusion benches.
  • Assembly Line: Housings, shutters, and wicks; fixture wiring for non-electric mounts; seal stamping.
  • QA / Longevity Cell: Light-flux charts, wear cycles, drip tests; ledger countersign.
  • Packing & Dispatch: Crate bench, straw fill, seal press; staging for FCS.
  • Secure Stores: Mother strains, seed substrate, finished caps; analog key + dual-entry ledger.
  • Mezzanine Offices: Manager’s desk, shift boards, procurement; small break nook.
  • Restrooms: AuroraSan stalls (staff & visitors), wash-basins.

Look and Feel

Damp cedar and clean stone under a gentle green-blue glow; rows of tray racks breathe in misted air while inspectors note humidity on slate boards. In the dry bays, oil lamps and *Luminofera* strips throw calm light across hand presses, shutter jigs, and seal stamps. Crates thud shut, ledgers snap closed, and the plant hums—orderly, quiet, and low-energy by design.

Products and Their Uses

Roles and Responsibilities

Staff (≈30)

  • Manufactory Manager (1): Operations, procurement, inter-agency liaison, QA sign-off.
  • Cultivation Specialists (8): Substrate prep, inoculation, tending, humidity/temperature control.
  • Processing Technicians (6): Harvest, conditioning, gel/strip infusion.
  • Assembly Crew (6): Lantern housings, shutters, panel mounts; crate prep.
  • Quality Assurance (3): Flux/longevity tests, defect logs, seal countersign.
  • Maintenance (3): Kettles, misters, racks, hand tools.
  • Logistics & Stores (2): Secure stocks, packing, FCS dispatch.
  • Admin & Ledger (1): Rosters, supply ledgers, permits.

Public Access, Operating Hours and Operational Rhythm

  • Shift Schedule:
    • 08:00–16:00 — Cultivation, processing, assembly
    • 16:00–00:00 — Assembly, QA, packing (cultivation tending as needed)
    • 00:00–08:00 — Cleaning, maintenance, climate reset (no public access)
  • Courier Window: FCS pick-ups at 07:30 and 16:30.
  • Tours: Not open to public; guild/academy visits by appointment during off-peak.

Security Measures

  • Perimeter Fence: 3 m alloy mesh with single staffed gate and load-lane bollards.
  • Restricted Access: Grow halls and secure stores under analog key; dual-custody ledgers.
  • Exit Inspections: Bag/tool checks; seal and crate audits per shift.
  • Deputy Patrols: Scheduled Industrial Ring passes; incident logbook countersigned daily.

Legal interactions:

  • Receive a GAIA assignment as cultivation aide, assembly hand, QA runner, or packing clerk.
  • Courier sealed crates along the Trade Route; replace panels at public sites with FLM work orders.
  • Conduct an academy/guild tour (by appointment) and assist with a supervised QA demonstration.

Illegal interactions:

  • Steal mother culture or seed substrate; forge seal stamps on failed lots.
  • Salt crates with contraband for long-haul dispatch; swap route labels to misdirect shipments.
  • Sabotage humidity ledgers or shutter jigs to dim a sector at a critical time.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

  • Adventure Hook — Night of a Thousand Shadows: Mid-convoy, Trade Route lanterns begin dying in a patterned wave. Back at FLM, QA ledgers show perfect flux—but the seal ink is a counterfeit blend. The Jane Mendoza Gang is suspected, yet their goal is murky: cover for a heist, a border push, or leverage over Firetown? Deputized off the books, the PCs trace swapped crate stencils, tampered shutter jigs, and a siphoned mother culture. Find the saboteur inside the plant or the leak on the route—before the next sector goes dark.
