MIRA REIS

Race and Faction

Background

Mira Reis’ parents were part of the Last Frontier’s musician scene who kept morale alive during the long journey. In her teenage years, Mira showed remarkable talent as well, although she refused to cover Earth Pop classics as most entertainers — including her parents — did. Instead, she sang her own lyrics and songs about life on the spaceship, the endless stars, and the fragile bonds between the passengers who called the vessel their home.

After the crash on VOI 700 D, she survived severe burns when a corridor near the ship’s port reactor ignited during re-entry. Half her face was scarred before an unknown rescuer pulled her from the flames — an event that shaped the rest of her life.

In the aftermath, Mira found it increasingly difficult to be hired for stage performances. Pub owners and saloon managers across the early settlements told her that her appearance reminded people of the tragedy they were trying to forget. Even those who had once loved her performances as a young girl aboard the Last Frontier avoided offering her work, claiming that “people want to move on and have fun.” Only one man — Guy Mikkelstein of Saloon Gloria in Firetown — gave her a stage, saying that her songs “sounded like the truth people were afraid to hear.”

From there, she began performing for travelers, couriers, and miners along the Trade Route, where her voice mattered more than her face. During this time, she wrote “The Last Horizon,” a haunting ballad about the Last Frontier’s fall and the fear of dying among the stars. Though deeply moving, the song never gained much attention during her lifetime — the Weber Broadcasting Service refused to air it, preferring the upbeat familiarity of Earth Pop that dominated public demand.

In 2628, she was shot by a still-unknown assailant during an incident in Firetown’s Entertainment District. The case remains cold.

After her death, however, “The Last Horizon” spread quietly through couriers and wanderers, becoming a whispered hymn of remembrance among settlers who had lost more than they could ever name. It remains one of the most haunting testaments to the early Beta Age — a voice of grief and defiance carried through endless night.

Motivations and Goals

Beta Age Motivations:

Mira sought to keep the memory of the Last Frontier alive and give settlers a reason to hope. Her travels were as much pilgrimage as profession — she performed wherever fear and silence threatened to take root. She also quietly searched for the identity of the stranger who saved her from the fire, though she never found them.

Gamma Age Motivations:

Despite her early death, her music persists. To many ExoHumans, “The Last Horizon” symbolizes resilience — the belief that even in endless night, a single voice can keep the stars alive.

Legacy

Mira Reis’s voice became part of the planet’s cultural fabric. Her story is retold by couriers and saloon singers; her image — half shadow, half light — adorns the walls of the Entertainment District.
