• Cost (Black market): 300-400 Kourou

The Lumilight is a sustainable and portable lighting device designed to meet the energy conservation needs of Gamma Age humanity on VOI 700 D's. Utilizing the bioluminescent properties of Luminofera dualis (“Shika Me La” in the Native language), Lumilights provide a durable, low-resource solution for personal illumination in the perpetual darkness of the Dark Side. Lightweight and efficient, they have become indispensable for those navigating VOI 700 D's challenging environments.

Lumilights get produced by the Federal Lumi Manufactory in Morningstar.

Bioluminescent Cells:

• The primary light source is the fungus Luminofera dualis, whose chemical reaction between luciferin and luciferase produces a soft, sustainable glow.

Biochemical Battery:

• Energy Source: Powered by organic materials and ore-processing byproducts.
• Recharge Mechanism: Kinetic energy from motion recharges the battery, alongside nutrient replenishment.
• Eco-Friendly Materials: Copper-zinc electrodes, acetic or citric acid as the electrolyte, and a natural gelatin-based membrane ensure the battery is biodegradable.

Housing and Optics:

• Durable Housing: Made from lightweight, impact-resistant materials for protection.
• Directional Lighting: A lens focuses the bioluminescent light into a directed beam for efficient use.
• Control Mechanism: A simple on/off system regulates the nutrient and oxygen supply to the bioluminescent cells, activating or deactivating the light.

The biochemical battery integrates sustainable materials sourced from the planet's ecosystem and mining industries:

• Electrodes: Copper (cathode) and zinc (anode), easily extracted and processed on VOI 700 D.
• Electrolyte: Organic acids, such as acetic or citric acid, derived from local resources.
• Membrane: Gelatin-based, separating electrodes while enabling ion flow.
• Functionality: Produces low electrical energy, sufficient to sustain bioluminescence, making Lumilights more suited for orientation than intensive lighting.

The Lumilight, while primarily designed for Federal Courier Service employees, Sheriff's Deputies, and reservation guards, has found its way into the black markets of the Federal Confederation. This is largely due to the increasing activity of outlaws and the growing demand for reliable, portable lighting solutions among civilians and less regulated groups.

• Raids on Federal Courier Caravans: Outlaw groups, including the Jane Mendoza Gang, frequently target Federal Courier Service caravans traversing the Trade Route. Stolen equipment, including Lumilights, often becomes part of the spoils of these raids.
• Corruption and Unauthorized Sales: Some less scrupulous members of the Federal Courier Service or Sheriff's Departments have been known to sell equipment, including Lumilights, to black market dealers for personal gain.
• Recovered or Salvaged Items: Damaged Lumilights left behind during raids or in abandoned areas are repaired by black market technicians and sold at a fraction of their original value.

• Civilians: The perpetual darkness of the Dark Side and the limited availability of sustainable lighting make Lumilights highly desirable for personal use.
• Outlaws: These groups often utilize Lumilights for covert operations, preferring their low energy requirements and quiet functionality to avoid detection.
• Collectors and Tinkerers: Modified versions of Lumilights, enhanced for brightness or fitted with additional features, have become a niche commodity in the underground markets.

Lumilights on the black market are priced between 300 and 400 Kourou, depending on their condition and any modifications.

• Inferior Quality: Many black market Lumilights are poorly maintained or repaired, leading to shorter lifespans or unreliable functionality.
• Modified for Illicit Activities: Some Lumilights are altered to emit specific wavelengths of light for clandestine operations, but these modifications can compromise their durability or increase their nutrient consumption.
• Traceable Components: Stolen Lumilights may contain serial numbers or other identifiers that could expose buyers to legal risks if discovered by Federal authorities.

The presence of Lumilights on the black market highlights the challenges of maintaining control over essential technology in the Gamma Age, where survival often outweighs legality. Their proliferation in underground networks reflects both their utility and the desperation of those living in the shadows of VOI 700 D.

• Portable Light Source: Lumilights provide soft illumination in dark environments, extending up to 10 feet in dim light and 5 feet in bright light.
• Rechargeable: Characters can recharge Lumilights by traveling at least 2 miles (or through a specific action, such as shaking or winding the device).
• Durability: Lumilights are resistant to cold and physical shocks, ensuring reliability in harsh conditions.
• Eco-Friendly Utility: Biodegradable and sustainable, Lumilights can be repurposed or composted if damaged beyond repair.

The Lumilight can enhance gameplay in several ways:

• Environmental Challenges: Introduce areas of the Dark Side where Lumilights are essential for navigation, adding tension to resource management.
• Failure and Repair Mechanics: Create scenarios where Lumilights run out of nutrients or suffer damage, requiring players to craft or scavenge for repair materials.
• Thematic Roleplay: Use the bioluminescent glow to create an immersive ambiance, emphasizing the eerie and alien nature of VOI 700 D.
• Stealth vs. Visibility: Incorporate light as a tactical choice—players may risk attracting attention to illuminate their surroundings or navigate in near-total darkness.
