The Federal Library of New Kourou is the founding and largest branch of the Federal Library System, opened in December 2634. Operated under the Federal News Agency, it provides curated, paper-based access to knowledge and literature selected via GAIA’s Federal Longlist, advancing the cultural and educational goals of the Federal Confederation within the constraints of Communardism.
Federal Libraries are also part of the official distribution network of the Weekly Gazette, ensuring that citizens can access current news alongside curated books and reference works.
Built and stocked during the first wave of Gamma Age cultural reconstruction, the New Kourou branch inaugurated the system that later expanded to Firetown, Hope, and Morningstar (2635). Its programs—public readings, curated catalogues, and reference services—became the model for all subsequent Federal Libraries.
Simple lines, modular partitions, and large windows maximize daylight and reduce energy use, reflecting the pragmatic civic aesthetic of the Public Services Ring.

Muted alloy, pale timber shelving, and generous natural light give the space a calm, studious vibe. The air smells of paper, ink, and paste. Wooden card-drawers and stamped lending slips replace terminals; the soft thunk of date-stamps and the whisper of turning pages set the rhythm. Event posters—approved by the Federal News Agency—add careful color without clutter.
