 Torben Bordeaux is a rugged, hard-working miner recently assigned to Firetown's copper mines under the [[federal_confederation|Federal Confederation]]. Originally trained as a lumberjack, Torben’s life took an unexpected turn when the restrictions outlined in the [[peace_treaty|Peace Treaty]] led to significant limitations in the logging industry, resulting in his reassignment. Struggling with the demanding labor, isolation, and perpetual darkness of the mines, he often seeks solace in alcohol and the drug [[luminofera|Shika]] after his shifts. These substances provide a temporary escape, but when intoxicated, his frustrations boil over, revealing a short temper and an aggressive streak. His mistrust of the authorities who disrupted his previous life fuels his defiant spirit.

+===== Motivations and Goals =====
+Torben’s primary motivation is to escape the monotonous and grueling existence in the mines. In the meantime, he seeks to maximize enjoyment outside of work, often through excessive drinking and brief bursts of camaraderie in Firetown’s bars. Deep down, he harbors a simmering resentment towards the Confederation and may be tempted by any opportunity that promises autonomy or revenge against the system that stripped away his former life.
+===== Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters =====
+Torben Bordeaux is a classic example of a volatile, oppressed individual in Firetown’s underbelly. He serves as an ideal NPC for encounters that capture the darker, more rebellious spirit of the settlement. His unpredictability and pent-up rage can be a useful tool for Dungeon Masters to introduce sudden conflict or tension in social settings. When incorporating Torben into gameplay, consider the following:
+  * **Social Interactions:** In social scenarios, Torben might openly criticize the Confederation or pick fights with characters he perceives as enforcers of authority. His mistrust of outsiders can lead him to be uncooperative unless characters appeal to his disdain for the government.
+  * **Combat Situations:** In combat, Torben is aggressive but lacks technique. His erratic fighting style makes him a difficult, if short-lived, opponent in close combat. Use his Rage-Driven Attack to surprise characters with his reckless bravery.
+  * **Rumor and Information Gathering:** Torben frequents places like Saloon Gloria, where his drunken rants might spill valuable information about the mines or his frustrations with the government. Characters might overhear insights about local unrest, individualist sentiments, or rumors circulating among miners.
+  * **Potential Allies or Adversaries:** Torben could become an unexpected ally for players looking to stir rebellion or gather intel about the Federal Confederation’s workings within the mines. Conversely, if players represent authority figures, he may become a persistent thorn in their side, representing the anger simmering among the miners.
