BILU ORUZI MOUNTAINS

Overview

The Bilu Oruzi Mountains mark the northeastern frontier of the Ralar Region, standing as a natural barrier between the icy tundras of the Dark Side and the uncharted wilderness of Vazhak. Towering above all other ranges on VOI 700 D, this massive formation includes the highest known mountain on the planet - the Bilu Oruzi – estimated at approximately 8,000 meters.

The climate is deadly, with frequent magnetic storms and temperature drops below -70°C. No Exohuman expedition has ever reached the summit, and the upper slopes remain a realm of mystery. The only documented attempt occurred during a Beta Age exploratory mission, which was forced to turn back at 3,700 meters due to violent storms.

The range is also home to Starry Mirror, a frozen lake nestled within the high passes. On clear nights, it reflects the stars of the eternal night sky, making it a site of spiritual significance for the Native Tribes.

Local Climatic Conditions, Geography and Landscape

Formed through deep tectonic upheaval, the Bilu Oruzi Mountains are among the most geologically active areas in the northern Dark Side. Their spines are jagged and steep, often carved by glacial winds and shifting permafrost. The terrain is nearly impassable beyond 3,500 meters, and the weather is among the most extreme on the planet.

Weather Patterns:

  • Magnetic and electrical storms year-round
  • Temperatures ranging from -40°C to below -70°C
  • High winds with hurricane-like gusts near the upper slopes
  • Frequent snowfall and unstable ice formations

Local Flora

Due to the climate, flora is extremely limited and highly localized. The only partial data on plant life stems from the Beta Age expedition team that explored the lower slopes.

Local Population and Settlement History

Native Presence

The Bilu Oruzi Mountains are considered sacred ground by several Native Tribes. According to legend, the mountain’s summit is a forbidden place — the domain of ancient sky beings. Starry Mirror serves as a ceremonial site during rare tribal pilgrimages.

Exohuman Exploration

Only one recorded Exohuman expedition attempted to explore the Bilu Oruzi Mountains during the Beta Age. Their goal was to document the far northeast of the Ralar Region. While a small team attempted to summit the tallest peak, they were forced to abort the mission at around 3,700 meters due to life-threatening storms. No further exploration has occurred since the enactment of the Peace Treaty.
