The Xzonomi is a large, mammalian mount native to the Northern Regions of the Ralar Region on the Dark Side of VOI 700 D. These creatures are uniquely adapted to the extreme darkness and cold of their environment, boasting thick, jet-black fur interwoven with a natural exoskeleton for additional protection.
Born blind, with clouded eyes, Xzonomis rely entirely on echolocation to navigate the perpetual night of the Dark Side. Their guttural clicking sounds help them map their environment and communicate within their herds. While wild Xzonomis are territorial and aggressive, the outlaw group known as the Drop Outs has successfully tamed and trained them as mounts, making them invaluable for navigating the Dark Side’s rugged terrain.
Among the Native Tribes of the Habitual Belt, Xzonomis are feared as “dark messengers,” symbolizing misfortune and inevitable change.
The first thing your party notices is the sound — a deep, guttural clicking echoing across the dark plains, carrying far further than sight could ever reach. It grows louder, closer, until the ground itself begins to tremble under heavy, deliberate steps.
Then comes the shape: a hulking silhouette cloaked in thick, jet-black fur, its ridged back armored with bony plates and spikes that glint faintly when the clicking pauses.
As the creature shifts, two spiral horns catch the faintest glow of starlight, lowering with a slow, deliberate menace. Despite its immense size, the Xzonomi moves with unnerving silence, as if the darkness itself carries it forward.
To the Natives, such a sight is an omen — the arrival of a “dark messenger.” To your players, it is the realization that they are standing in the path of something too large to ignore, and too fast to outrun.
Xzonomis introduce high-mobility and stealth challenges to encounters.
