The NEX-9 was a high-end personal communication and digital assistant device developed by NEX Enterprise, a leading technology company based in Paris, Earth. Released in 2420, it was the ninth generation of the highly successful NEX series, which first launched in 2410 and quickly became the dominant choice for personal communication, media consumption, and AI-assisted daily planning.

By the time of the Last Frontier’s departure, the NEX-9 held a market share of over 40%, making it the most popular—and also the most expensive—device of its kind. While several competing manufacturers produced similar multi-functional devices, none matched the premium build quality, security features, and AI integration of the NEX-9. It was widely used by both civilians and professionals, serving as a communications hub, augmented reality interface, and personal assistant in daily life.
