HEADQUARTERS OF THE FEDERAL SHERIFF
Overview
- Location: Civic Ring, New Kourou
- Address: NW Civic Ring Road 3
- Surroundings: Adjacent to the FEDERAL ATTORNEY BUILDINGFederal Attorney's building
Serving as the primary law enforcement building for the Federal Confederation, the Headquarters of the Federal Sheriff fulfills dual roles as both the administrative headquarters of the Federal Sheriff and the primary police station for the New Kourou Reservation. Uniquely, the Federal Sheriff is also automatically the Local Sheriff of New Kourou, a distinction that highlights the New Kourou’s role as the capital and administrative heart of the Federal Confederation.
The building accommodates the Federal Sheriff, 45 deputies, and 20 office staff, making it a vital center for maintaining order and overseeing major investigations across all ExoHuman settlements.
Architectural Significance
- Construction Material: Primarily salvaged materials from the Last Frontier spaceship, maintaining the patchwork, utilitarian aesthetic seen across New Kourou.
- Floors: 3
- Design Purpose: Reflects both the adaptive resourcefulness of ExoHumans and their commitment to democratic governance.
Currently in a provisional state, the Headquarter of the Federal Sheriff is a makeshift structure built from repurposed components of the Last Frontier. The Headquarters remains a practical, no-frills structure, embodying resilience and functionality rather than permanence or grandeur.

Responsibilities and Staffing at the Headquarters
The Federal Sheriff’s Headquarters in New Kourou employs 100 Deputies, who fulfill both local and federal responsibilities. This allocation falls short of the ideal staffing formula of 140 Deputies for New Kourou’s 14,000 citizens, creating challenges in fully addressing Local Sheriff duties while managing federal obligations.
Federal Sheriff’s Responsibilities
The Federal Sheriff oversees law enforcement across the Federal Confederation and collaborates with Local Sheriffs to maintain security. Core duties include:
- Confederationwide Jurisdiction: Managing serious crimes like political offenses, organized crime, and inter-settlement cases.
- Oversight: Ensuring Local Sheriffs operate within federal laws and frameworks.
- Coordination: Facilitating inter-settlement collaboration and resource sharing.
- Law Enforcement: Upholding federal laws, including Peace Treaty provisions.
Local Sheriff’s Responsibilities
As the Local Sheriff of New Kourou, the Federal Sheriff oversees the settlement´s community policing and public safety:
Community Policing: Addressing thefts, disputes, and disturbances. Local Investigations: Handling minor crimes and incidents within the settlement. Public Safety: Managing emergencies and maintaining order during events. Cooperation with Federal Sheriff: Supporting broader investigations when needed.
Staffing Breakdown
The 100 Deputies assigned to New Kourou handle responsibilities across federal and local levels:
- Community Policing (40 Deputies): Patrolling neighborhoods, responding to emergencies, and engaging with citizens.
- Criminal Investigations (30 Deputies): Investigating violent crimes, organized crime, and threats to the Peace Treaty.
- Federal Operations Support (20 Deputies): Coordinating inter-settlement operations and managing GAIA data analysis.
- Detention and Security (10 Deputies): Overseeing detainees, securing evidence, and maintaining facility safety.
Despite this allocation, resource constraints caused by Peace Treaty limitations and inefficiencies strain New Kourou’s law enforcement capacity. Deputies face increased workloads, often prioritizing urgent cases over long-term initiatives, leaving gaps in both community policing and federal oversight.
