FIRETOWN POST HEADQUARTERS

Overview

The Firetown Post Headquarters serves as the editorial and printing office of the Firetown Post, the official weekly newspaper of the Individualist Party. It operates from the former German Imbiss, a modest two-story building repurposed in 2634. The building also doubles as the Local Headquarters of the Individualist Party in Firetown, reflecting the paper’s direct connection to the party.

History

The site was originally used as a small German-style fast-food outlet during the Beta Age. After the Great War and the rise of the Federal Confederation, it stood abandoned until 2634, when the Individualist Party claimed it as a symbolic base for their counter-newspaper.

Rumors persist that the Jane Mendoza Gang helped procure the analogue printer and provided a technician to maintain it, giving the Post the ability to print despite resource constraints.

Architectural Significance

  • Construction Materials: Original brick-and-mortar with salvaged alloy reinforcements; patched repairs after decades of neglect.
  • Floors: 2
  • Design Purpose: Improvised adaptation of a commercial building into a newsroom and party headquarters.

Its façade still carries faded signs of its former use, overpainted with the Individualist Party emblem. Inside, the layout is cramped but functional, with rooms partitioned for editorial, printing, and party activities.

Building Structure

Ground Floor

  • Reception & Party Office: Handles visitors, party members, and subscription inquiries.
  • Editorial Room: Small open space where editors and columnists work at desks with paper drafts and typewriters.
  • Printing Room: Houses the analogue press rumored to be acquired via the Jane Mendoza Gang; noisy, ink-stained, and under lock and key.

Second Floor

  • Editor-in-Chief’s Office: Overlooks the alley; used for editorial decisions and party meetings.
  • Meeting Hall: Functions as the Individualist Party’s local headquarters, with benches, a podium, and party banners.
  • Archive Closet: Stores past issues, party records, and correspondence.

Look and Feel

The Firetown Post Headquarters feels improvised and defiant. Posters of the Individualist Party line the walls, overlapping with leftover murals from its days as a German Imbiss. The smell of ink and grease mixes with old frying oil trapped in the walls. Wooden desks are crowded with handwritten drafts, while the rhythmic clatter of the analogue press fills the building with a sense of urgency.

Despite its modest appearance, the headquarters radiates political energy — part newsroom, part rallying point, and part safehouse.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Editor-in-Chief: Directs both editorial and political messaging.
  • Deputy Editor: Manages day-to-day content and coordinates with couriers.
  • Editors & Writers: Draft party-aligned articles and speeches.
  • Printer/Technician: Operates and maintains the analogue press.
  • Clerks: Handle subscriptions, donations, and local correspondence.

Public Access, Operating Hours and Rhythm

  • Public Access: Limited to subscribers, party members, and petitioners.
  • Operating Hours: No fixed schedule; open irregularly depending on editorial needs and party meetings.
  • Operational Rhythm:
    • Morning: Printers prepare the day’s runs.
    • Daytime: Editors work on drafts; party members use the meeting hall.
    • Evening: Proofreading, political strategy sessions, or rallies.

Security Measures

  • Party Volunteers: Guard the entrance during meetings or press days.
  • Restricted Access: Printing room and archives locked at all times.
  • Surveillance: Occasional monitoring by Local Sheriff deputies, though enforcement is politically lax in Firetown.

Player Interaction Possibilities

Legal (Common Interactions)

  • Subscribe to the Firetown Post and pick up issues directly.
  • Petition editors for coverage of local events or grievances.
  • Attend an Individualist Party meeting in the second-floor hall.

Illegal

  • Infiltrate the printing room to sabotage or alter issues.
  • Steal or plant documents in the archive closet.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

  • The Stolen Draft: PCs intercept a draft that reveals sensitive party strategies. Do they leak it, sell it, or return it?
