FEDERAL NEWS BUILDING

Overview

The Federal News Building, managed by the Federal News Agency (FNA), serves as the central hub for all official print and news operations for the Federal Confederation. Housing the Federal Printing Office on the ground floor, The Weekly Gazette's Editorial Office on the second floor, and the Federal News Agency’s Administration on the third floor, this building is a cornerstone of information dissemination on VOI 700 D. Responsible for printing The Weekly Gazette, essential books for the Federal Libraries, and official documents, the Federal News Building plays a critical role in keeping citizens informed, engaged, and connected.

Building and Architectural Significance

  • Construction Material: Primarily recycled materials from the Last Frontier, in line with sustainable urban planning in New Kourou.
  • Floors: 3
  • Design Purpose: Designed for collaborative work and public communication, the building emphasizes accessibility, durability, and efficient space use.

Building Structure

Ground Floor:

  • Reception and Public Access Area: A welcoming reception area for visitors, where inquiries about The Weekly Gazette and the Federal News Agency can be made.
  • Printing Floor of the Federal Printing Office: The main space on the ground floor is the printing facility, where e.g, copies of The Weekly Gazette are produced. This area is restricted to authorized staff, with access controlled by ID verification.
  • Loading Dock: Situated at the back of the building, the loading dock facilitates the distribution of freshly printed copies to Federal Courier Service transport vehicles for delivery across the reservations.

Second Floor:

  • Editorial Office and Newsroom of The Weekly Gazette: A large, open-plan space where journalists, editors, and the Editor-in-Chief work on story development, layout, and coordination. This area features individual workstations, meeting rooms, and a quiet room for private interviews or meetings.
  • Editor-in-Chief’s Office: Located at one end of the newsroom, the Editor-in-Chief’s office is a private area used for high-level editorial meetings, final story approval, and coordination with the Federal News Agency’s oversight committee.
  • Archives and Data Storage Room: A secure, restricted-access room that houses both current and past records, research materials, and sensitive source documents. Only the editorial team and the Editor-in-Chief have access to this space.
  • Break Room and Kitchenette: Staff have access to a comfortable break room equipped with seating, a kitchenette, and amenities for meals and relaxation.

Third Floor:

  • Federal News Agency Administration: This floor hosts the administrative offices of the FNA, handling the financial, organizational, and regulatory needs of the agency.

Security Measures

Given its role in informing the public and its influence on ExoHuman society, the Federal Printing Building maintains several security protocols to protect its operations and staff:

  • On-Site Security Staff: One deputy of the Federal Sheriff is assigned to the building, monitoring daily activity.
  • Restricted Access Areas: Certain sections, including the printing floor and editorial offices, are accessible only to employees and authorized personnel, with access controlled by ID verification.
  • Analog Alert System: The building is equipped with an Analog Siren System to immediately notify the Federal Sheriff’s Headquarters in the event of a safety threat.
  • Document Protection: Sensitive information, including unpublished stories and source data, is stored in a secured archive room, accessible only to the editorial team and the Editor-in-Chief.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters

The Federal Printing Building provides a unique environment for players interested in intrigue, investigation, and media influence:

  • Accessing Information and Investigating Leads: The building’s archives and data storage room could house sensitive documents or unpublished articles. Players may need to gain permission or find ways to access restricted areas if they seek confidential information related to high-profile investigations, government critiques, or sensitive news stories.
  • Interactions with Journalists and Editors: The newsroom on the second floor offers opportunities for players to meet with journalists and potentially sway public opinion by influencing upcoming stories. Players could provide information for a news feature, negotiate to stop a potentially harmful story, or even place pressure on editorial decisions if they have high-status allies.
  • Escort and Security Missions: As a public and politically sensitive building, players could be assigned to provide security for an editor or journalist who has received threats. These missions might require monitoring public access areas, protecting specific personnel, or managing crowds during a high-stakes story release.
  • Disrupting or Protecting Distribution: The loading dock, where printed issues of The Weekly Gazette are prepared for distribution, could be a key location for players aiming to disrupt the paper's circulation or ensure that crucial information reaches the public. This could lead to exciting chases or stealth missions.
  • Public Engagement and Influence: With the reception area open to the public, players could interact with citizens discussing recent articles, gathering public opinion, or sparking debates. This allows for character-driven role-playing, where players may impact the opinions of NPCs and even affect the editorial stance by expressing or challenging the perspectives published by The Weekly Gazette.
