FEDERAL FOUNTAINS
Federal Fountains are a network of public water fountains situated in the residential areas of the New Kourou, Hope, and Morningstar reserves. These fountains are designed to provide free, fresh drinking water to the residents and serve as a continual reminder of the value of this essential resource.
Design
Each Federal Fountain is approximately 1.2 meters high and resembles a stele with a water tap affixed to it. The fountains are minimalistic, built with durable materials to withstand various weather conditions and the test of time. Above each faucet is the engraved message, “Water is life. Life is precious,” reminding people of the importance of water conservation.
Functionality
The water tap on each fountain is slightly ajar to prevent the build-up of bacteria or other contaminants. The water that flows as a result is collected in a basin below the tap. This water is not wasted; instead, it is harvested and repurposed for various other needs, such as watering plants or for industrial purposes.
Distribution
The fountains are strategically placed so that no more than 500 residents share a single fountain, ensuring easy access to fresh water for everyone. This system represents an integral part of the community infrastructure, emphasizing not just utility but also a shared responsibility towards sustainable living.
Significance
The Federal Fountains are more than just a source of drinking water; they are a symbol of the community's commitment to sustainable living and resource conservation. The continual flow of water serves as both a practical measure for hygiene and a metaphor for the ongoing efforts required to maintain a balanced ecosystem.
