The Vazhak Ice Fields form the heart of the Vazhak Region on the Dark Side of VOI 700 D, an immense and treacherous glacial expanse characterized by constant environmental instability, brutal cold, and eerie atmospheric phenomena. Unlike the geothermal zones of the Ralar Mountains or the borderlands near the Habitual Belt, the Vazhak Ice Fields are marked by unrelenting frost, shifting terrain, and a near-total absence of life.
With deep crevasses, magnetic anomalies, and sudden weather shifts, the Ice Fields are considered as one of the most dangerous and least understood landscapes on VOI 700 D.
Vazhak's interior reaches temperatures as low as -80°C, while the outer borderlands near the Habitual Belt are only marginally warmer. The absence of geothermal activity, coupled with intense magnetic fields, creates an environment that warps both perception and navigation.
There is no known plant life in the Vazhak Ice Fields. The lack of geothermal warmth, sunlight, or chemical energy sources makes plant survival virtually impossible.
There were only two Exohuman expeditions during the Beta Age — Vazhak I and Vazhak II. Since all members of Vazhak I vanished without a trace and Vazhak II had to retreat due to hostile environmental conditions, there is very limited documented data on the region’s fauna.
Exohuman scientists assume that the extreme cold, lack of geothermal activity, and magnetic interference make a rich and diverse wildlife nearly impossible. However, one encounter from the Vazhak II expedition stands out:
The Native Tribes have never settled in the Vazhak Ice Fields. Tribal oral traditions describe Vazhak as a forsaken land, haunted by spirits and cursed with endless winter. It plays no role in their cosmology or spiritual rituals.
There are no settlements or infrastructure in Vazhak. The region has only seen two documented expeditions:
Following the Peace Treaty and due to the region's deadly nature, in the Gamma Age no further expeditions have been approved. Scientists estimate less than 10% of the region has been mapped.
The Vazhak Ice Fields offer unmatched potential for psychological horror, survival challenges, and environmental storytelling. DMs can use terrain itself as a threat, layering paranoia, isolation, and strange phenomena that blur reality.
The Ice Fields are ideal for expedition-based campaigns, rescue missions, or uncovering ancient secrets buried beneath the ice. Use ghost crevasses and magnetic storm zones to disorient players and push them into morally and mentally difficult choices.
