TWILIGHT PERCH

The Twilight Perch is a bottom-dwelling predatory fish endemic to the nutrient-rich depths of the eastern Lake Arla shoreline in the Asari Region of VOI 700 D. Known for its stillness and ambush tactics, it is one of the lake’s most effective hunters under low-light conditions.

It plays an important ecological role by regulating smaller fish populations, especially species like the Gloom Swimmer.

• Size: 25-30 cm
• Weight: 5-6.5 kg
• Body Shape: Flat and wide-bodied with extended pectoral fins
• Skin: Speckled gray and olive, with a dull glow to blend into the sediment
• Speed: 2.5 km/h (short bursts only)

• Camouflage Skin: Skin pigmentation allows it to blend in perfectly with lakebed terrain.
• Ambush Posture: Lies still for hours before striking.
• Silent Gill Movement: Eliminates sound during breathing, making detection difficult.

• Armor Class (AC): 13 (natural camouflage)
• Hit Points (HP): 12
• Speed: 20 ft. (swimming)

• Ambush Bite: 1d8 piercing damage. Deals double damage if undetected.
• Sediment Stir: Kicks up sediment to obscure its position (Grants disadvantage to ranged attacks for one round).

• Lurker’s Patience: Gains +3 to Stealth rolls while stationary on the lakebed.
• Bottom Sense: Can detect nearby motion through vibrations in the sediment.
• Cold Resistance: Naturally adapted to cooler water layers.

• Diet: Carnivorous (feeds on Gloom Swimmers, aquatic insects, small amphibians)
• Social Structure: Solitary
• Activity Pattern: Crepuscular (active at dawn and dusk)

• Camouflaged Ambush: Lies in wait among silt or under stone outcrops
• Strike-and-Wait: Strikes, feeds, then returns to same hunting spot

• Spawning Season: End of the storm season
• Nest Building: Digs shallow depressions in sediment for spawning
• Egg Count: Around 1,000 eggs per mating event
• Parental Care: Minimal — fry are independent within days
• Lifespan: 5–6 years (Estimation)

The Twilight Perch is an excellent ambient threat in underwater exploration scenes. Use it to introduce unexpected danger, or a rare ingredient for crafting.

• Sudden Encounter: A silent ambush adds tension in otherwise calm waters
• Hunting Clue: Bones or disturbed sediment may indicate its territory
• Rare Ingredient: Certain cultures may prize its organs or skin for light-absorbing clothing or cloaks
