2 | Read-Aloud Descriptions
Initial Read-Aloud (Scene Opening)
The roar hits you before the heat does.

Inside the Nebula Fight Arena, hundreds of bodies pack themselves around a raised 3×3-meter steel cage, its mesh walls rattling every time a fist or elbow slams against it. Torches flicker along basalt walls patched with old starship hull plating, throwing wild shadows over the screaming crowd.

A Butler Bot in Space Drinks livery glides past with a tray of sloshing mugs, weaving between gamblers waving fistfuls of Kourou. Behind the cage, a chalkboard lists tonight’s bouts — some written neatly in red, others hastily added in white as new volunteers sign up.

Inside the cage, a towering Zark fighter bellows a challenge while the human referee locks the door with a heavy metallic click. Cheers erupt. Coins change hands. Someone nearby shouts, “Five hundred on the newcomer losing in under a minute!”

The whole arena shakes with anticipation.

Staged Read-Alouds (Progressive Descriptions)
| **Trigger / Timing** | **Read-Aloud Cue** |
| **If PCs approach the cage** | The Zark fighter slams his open palm against the mesh — the entire structure shivers under the blow. |
| **If PCs approach betting booths** | Bookies yell odds over each other, chalk squeaking across the slate board as new names are added. |
| **If PCs scan the bar area** | A grotesquely wealthy drunk — Gavin Tronstad — laughs too loudly, spilling Space Beer over his expensive fur coat while a bored prostitute rolls her eyes. His fat, wobbly fingers clumsily slide banknotes into the woman’s cleavage, and a 1,000-Kourou bill lies forgotten on the floor at his feet. Seeing him jolts your memory: this is the fraudster who made a fortune selling “esoteric medicine” — supposedly learned from the Natives — to desperate settlers in the Atrana Mountains. |

3 | Scene Intent
| **Combat · Betting · Rumor Hub** | Fight · gamble · gather criminal intel | Provides links to Cartel activity, Zark fighters, indebted gladiators, and a chance to earn, steal (or lose) serious Kourou. |

5 | Triggers, Clues & Consequences
| **Trigger / Cue** | **Immediate Reaction / What Happens** | **Future Hook / Consequence** |
| 🗣️ **PCs talk to Mila Santiago** | Mila assesses them with a fighter’s eye. | Can offer a volunteer match slot or reveal how Cartel debt-bonds fighters. |
| 🎲 **PCs bet at Bookie 1** | Honest odds given. | Clean bets → fair wins/losses. |
| 📋 **PCs ask to fight** | Fight Manager tests sobriety and readiness. | If accepted: enter fight queue → potential 500 K earnings. |
| 💬 **PCs bribe Bookie 2 (5 K)** | He whispers Zark weaknesses. | Advantage on first round against any Zark fighter. |
| 🐍 **PCs ask Bookie 3 for tips** | Snake gives false info. | PCs disadvantaged → rigged loss. |
| 🧪 **PCs inquire about stimulants** | A server gives a quiet nod toward a back booth. | Can buy illegal enhancers (DM’s choice). |
| 💰 **PCs notice Gavin Tronstad** | He shouts, spills beer. | Perception (DC 12): notice a 1,000-K bill slip from his coat. |
| 🕵️ **PCs attempt to pickpocket Gavin** | Sleight of Hand vs. Gavin’s passive Perception (8). | Success: PCs gain 1,000 K. Failure: Zark bouncers immediately intervene — rough restraint, public humiliation. If the PCs resist or argue, the bouncers hand them over to the Local Guarding Troopers → automatic arrest and escorted directly to the Station (Scene 9), starting the scene at a severe disadvantage. |
| 🍺 **PCs talk to Gavin** | He boasts about selling “mountain miracle tonics” in Atrana Region. | Optional hook to Morningstar + future fraud investigation. |
| 👂 **PCs listen to crowd rumors** | Snippets about Cartel, indebted gladiators, Trooper bribes. | Seeds for Scene 9 or future Firetown arcs. |

6 | DM Notes
  * **Purpose of This Scene:**
    - Provide a high-energy, chaotic environment for gambling, fighting, and information gathering
    - Offer multiple ways to earn money, gain leverage, or get injured

  * **How to Play Key Staff:**
    - **Mila Santiago:** Confident, sharp-eyed, commands respect; treats fighters and patrons like assets
    - **Fight Manager:** Stern, no-nonsense; rejects drunk PCs to avoid lethal accidents
    - **Referee:** Neutral, focused only on the cage rules
    - **Zark Fighters:** Tall, heavy-hitters. Showmanship without cruelty — this is a job, not pleasure. Excellent at intimidating PCs considering a volunteer fight
    - **Bookies:**
        - *Honest Shark:* Fair, gruff, but trustworthy
        - *Whisperer:* For small bribes gives true fight insights
        - *Snake:* Lies for Cartel profit

  * **Gavin Tronstad (Opportunity NPC):**
    - Primarily included as a money-making opportunity (pickpocketing)
    - **Important:** On failed pickpocket attempts, the Zark bouncers *automatically escalate* → restrain PCs → hand them directly to the Local Guarding Troopers
    - This can funnel PCs straight into **Scene 9 (Station)** under hostile circumstances
    - Use this as a hard consequence to raise stakes, not comedic failure

  * **How the Arena Feels to Run:**
    - Loud, hot, packed
    - Every interaction is tinged with risk or opportunity
    - PCs can quickly earn friends… or enemies
    - Everyone watches everyone — paranoia is normal

  * **If PCs Cause Trouble Outside the Ring:**
    - Zark bouncers respond instantly
    - Large disturbances may trigger a Guarding Trooper raid
    - Trooper raid can shut down the area and force PCs to flee or hide

  * **Scene Flow Tips for the DM:**
    - Keep the noise and motion constant
    - Let PCs feel like the Arena is alive around them
    - Push opportunities: betting, fighting, bribing bookies, stealing from Gavin
    - Always contrast the public spectacle with the private desperation of fighters
