----

2 | Read-Aloud Descriptions
The station yard hums with motion. Hooves strike cobblestone, drivers shout over the hiss of steam brakes, and the smell of metal and hay hangs in the heat. Behind a brass-edged counter, a clerk looks up.
“Passenger convoy to Firetown? You’re just in time — departs at 11:30. Two seats left in the rear coach.*”

He flips open a manifest, tapping the line with an ink-stained finger. “35 K per head. One meal, a bunk, and a stop at the Halfway Inn. No refunds if you fall off the route.”

Staged Read-Alouds (Progressive Descriptions)
| **Trigger / Timing** | **Read-Aloud or Short Narrative Insert** |
| When PCs ask about convoy details | “Four freight carts and one heated passenger coach — Firetown Courier Service line. Ten Hoos total, five cart drivers, no guard.” The clerk keeps stamping as he speaks. “Takes a day and a half along the bitter cold Trade Route.” He pauses, pen hovering. “Any more details, or can I go on with my work?” |
| After purchase or persuasion | A whistle shrieks outside; coupling chains rattle. Steam rolls past the window as the convoy aligns for departure. The clerk slides the stamped tickets forward. “Better hurry.” |
| PCs step onto the platform (after purchase) | The air outside bites with iron-cold wind. Among the passengers stands a young woman clutching a worn banjo case. When she turns her head toward the sound of your steps, the light catches the left side of her face — scarred but calm, her gray-green eyes meeting yours for a moment before she looks away and tunes a string. |
| Convoy arrives at the station yard (boarding call) | A deep horn bellows from outside, followed by the clank of coupling chains. The convoy rumbles into the yard — four freight carts and one passenger coach gliding to a halt under a veil of vapor. Drivers shout roll calls as Hoos snort against their bridles. |
| When PCs board the passenger cart | Inside the heated coach, seven seats are already taken — a man with the dark Mark of Shame inked beneath his eyes sits rigid near the door, while six half-drunken laborers laugh over bottles of Red Dwarf Firewater and Space Beer. The air is thick with fumes, sweat, and iron dust. The woman with the banjo finds a corner seat, nodding faintly as the cart lurches forward. |
| If PCs delay past 11:30 | The yard gate clangs. The last driver swings aboard. One cart’s wheels grind forward — miss this and the next convoy leaves tomorrow. |

5 | Triggers, Clues & Consequences
| **Trigger / Cue (Player Action or Event)** | **Immediate Reaction / Change** | **Ripple Effect / Future Hook** |
| 💰 **Book available tickets (35 K each)** | Clerk issues two stamped paper slips and notes the names in his ledger. | Deduct 35 K per traveler from starting budget (100 K). Only two seats remain confirmed for Firetown convoy. |
| 🗣️ **Attempt Persuasion (DC 14) to obtain extra ticket** | The clerk frowns, checking his ledger twice. “All other 8 seats paid for,” he mutters — unless PCs succeed. On success, he forces a seat swap with a freight assistant for 45 K extra. | Third PC can board; failure means that PC must use the Veyra route → Scene 3b — Mandala’s Mounts. |
| ⚙️ **Inspect yard / speak with Mira** | Mira mentions a Dark Side-route convoy that vanished last week and advises tightening saddle straps. | Foreshadows later ambush thread on Trade Route; adds subtle travel tension. |
| 🧊 **Ask about convoy timing or route** | Clerk points to the wall clock. “*Departs 11:30. One and a half days to Firetown if the wind stays merciful.*” | Reinforces time pressure and travel duration; DM may track daylight cycles. |
| 🤖 **If Hana Lee in party** | Clerk insists her robotic companion be stored in cargo compartment for the journey. “No room left among passengers.” | Companion unavailable during travel; introduces mechanical risk or later inspection scene. |
| ⏰ **Miss departure (> 11:30)** | Gate slams shut as final cart rolls out. Clerk shrugs. “*Next convoy tomorrow — if the road stays open.*” | PCs must secure alternate transport → Scene 3b — Mandala’s Mounts. |

6 | DM Notes
 * **Tone Reminder:** Bureaucratic efficiency under frontier conditions — noise without chaos.
 * **Key Pressure:** 11:30 departure acts as soft deadline; use yard whistles and shouting drivers to signal time flow.
 * **Economy Beat:** Reinforce Kourou currency and player budget tracking.
 * **Choice Beat:** Players may skip convoy to pursue mount route; both lead to Halfway Inn.
 * **Character Thread:** Rulf can reappear in Firetown as ally or antagonist depending on interaction tone.
 * **Improvisation Rule:** Treat every meaningful question as a trigger — reward curiosity with texture or clue.
