The Weekly Gazette is the official public service newspaper of the Federal Confederation in the Gamma Age. First published in 2634, it replaced the decommissioned Web as the primary news source for ExoHumans, offering curated, print-based journalism aligned with the principles of Communardism.

History
Founding (2634)
The Gazette was created after the Federal Council passed the Independent Press Act, establishing the Federal News Agency (FNA). Its purpose was to create an independent but resource-efficient news system.

Early Distribution
The first edition was printed in New Kourou in 2634 and distributed to other reservations via the Federal Courier Service. By 2635, dedicated Federal News Lounges were established, ensuring equitable access to news across the Confederation.

Ongoing Publication
Published weekly, the Gazette remains the primary medium for government announcements, cultural reporting, and political debate.

Core Responsibilities
 * **Federal News Lounges (FNL)**

Public Perception and Criticism
While the Gazette promotes itself as independent, critics highlight its political proximity to the Communards.

**Supporters argue:**
 * It represents a balanced public service press.
 * GAIA’s role in editor selection ensures impartiality.

**Critics (notably the Individualist Party) argue:**
 * It functions as a government organ favoring Communard ideology.
 * GAIA’s parameters are set by the ruling majority, skewing editorial outcomes.

Rival Publication
To counter the Gazette, the Individualists founded the Firetown Post in 2634, a weekly party newspaper advocating Dark Side perspectives.

Organizational Structure
 * **Editor-in-Chief:** Appointed every 4 years via GAIA shortlist, confirmed by a 7-member independent panel representing all ExoHuman communities.
 * **Deputy Editor:** Assists with management and stands in for the Editor-in-Chief.
 * **Editors (3):** Oversee political, cultural, and social sections of the paper.
 * **Photo Reporter:** Provides imagery and illustrations for stories.
 * **Clerks and Assistants:** Manage records, layout, and logistics.

Legacy and Impact
 * **Cultural Anchor:** Provides continuity of information in the absence of the Web.
 * **Political Flashpoint:** Criticized as biased, praised as stabilizing.
 * **Public Knowledge:** Ensures weekly news is accessible across all reservations.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
 * **The Missing Edition:** A shipment of the Gazette vanishes en route — was it theft, sabotage, or simple mishap? PCs must retrieve or replace it.
 * **The Controversial Headline:** A story set to run could destabilize politics. PCs might intervene to suppress, rewrite, or protect the editorial decision.
