NEBULA FIGHT ARENA
Overview
* **Location:** Public Services Ring Firetown
* **Address:** NE Public Service Ring Road 2
* **Surroundings:** Nestled in Firetown’s Entertainment District, adjacent to the Kittens from Space

Nebula Fight Arena — often still called “the Lounge” by locals — was Firetown’s notorious free‑fight venue during the Beta Age. Founded in 2625 by Mila Santiago, the club was a highlight known far beyond Firetown: Volunteer fighters squared off against towering Zark employees inside a reinforced 3 × 3 m cage that dominated the bar’s center. Patrons crowded around, placing bets and drinking potent brews as flesh met fist under flickering lanterns.

As the operators focused on the fighting business, the bar operations were outsourced. Mila leased a “XL Bar‑Desk‑as‑a‑Service” package from Space Drinks Inc, complete with a prefab counter, refrigeration coils, four Butler Bot barkeeps, and stocked exclusively with Space Drinks labels.

After the Great War, Supreme Councilor Aisha Patel’s administration closed the Nebular Fight Arena under the Peace Treaty and Communardist reforms in 2631.

Architectural Significance
* **Construction Materials:** A fully improvised structure assembled from stacked cargo containers, salvaged Last Frontier starship hull segments, reinforced timber beams, and welded steel braces. Container walls bear faded shipping codes, impact dents, and scorch marks from prior use.
* **Floors:** A single‑level open hall with reinforced flooring to withstand the vibrations of fights and stomping feet.
* **Geothermal Feed Vents:** Insulated steel stacks and vent assemblies integrated into the rear façade, channeling heat and hot water from the Geothermal Power Plant to maintain interior temperature
* **Air Vents / Heat Recovery Ventilator:** The building's air exchange was managed by a centralized, mechanical ventilation system with a central intake on the exterior of the building.
* **Power Supply:** Quantum Fusion Battery
* **Design Purpose:** Pure function over form — fast to assemble, easy to repair, and profitable. The arena was never intended to last, only to endure long enough to keep crowds drinking, betting, and bleeding.
* **Lighting and Heating:** Illuminated by torches, heating powered by the Geothermal Power Plant

Building Structure
**Interior**

* **Fight Cage (3 × 3 m):** A raised, square cage with reinforced steel bars and a lockable door.
* **Fight Manager’s Desk:** Positioned between the betting booth and gladiator holding pens, the desk was where patrons had to apply to volunteer. The manager decided who could fight based on sobriety, aggression level, and prior injury. He was known to reject clearly drunk or incapacitated guests to avoid accidental deaths — and complaints.
* **Numbered Waiting Area:** A roped-off zone near the holding pens where cleared challengers had to wait. Each fighter wore a visible number matching the chalkboard fight listing, allowing the audience to place bets on or against them.
* **Betting Stands:** Makeshift wooden booths where patrons placed wagers with bookies on each bout.
* **Chalkboard Fight Schedule:** Mounted behind the betting stands, this large slate board listed all scheduled bouts for the night. Pre-assigned gladiator matches were marked in red chalk before bar opening. As patrons volunteered to fight, their names (or aliases) were added in white chalk by the fight manager
* **Space Drinks Bar Counter:** Styled in Space Drinks livery. Staffed by a Butler Bot that taps kegs of Space Beer, Gravity Grog, and other Space Drinks Inc. labels.
* **Gladiator Holding Pens:** A small room behind the bar where indebted fighters waited.
* **Service Staff Quarters:** Modest rooms where bartenders, bookies, and medics rested between rushes.
* **Restrooms (3):** Three unisex stalls with AuroraSan fixtures.

**Exterior**

* **Front Appearance:** The domed roof retained its translucent panels, now streaked with soot. A neon‑painted sign of swirling clouds still hovered above the entrance, though the cheerful image belied the violent entertainment inside.

Look and Feel
Walking into Nebula Fight Arena was like entering a cauldron of adrenaline. The air thrummed with chants, curses, and the metallic slam of bodies against cage bars. Torches cast trembling shadows across sweat‑slick faces. The scent of spiced liquor, blood, and cheap tobacco mingled with earthy basalt. Spectators leaned on railings, coins clutched tight, shouting at Zark giants and desperate exohumans locked in gladiatorial struggle. The clang of the cage door and the referee’s bark signaled each match’s start, and roars crescendoed as one fighter knocked another to the floor. Between bouts, waitresses dodged splashes and fists, refilling mugs and sweeping away broken chairs.

Roles and Responsibilities
* **Arena Proprietor (1):** Oversees operations, negotiates with underworld lenders to recruit indebted gladiators, and manages payouts.
* **Fight Manager (1):** Schedules bouts, balances matchups between human challengers and Zark employees, and coordinates with bookies.
* **Referee (1):** Locks and unlocks the cage door, enforces the single rule (no personal weapons or outside help), and counts out losing fighters.
* **Bookies (3):** Take bets, track odds, and pay out winnings or collect debts.
* **Bouncers (3):** Three former Zark-cage fighters who maintain order among the crowd and eject troublemakers.
* **Butler Bot (4):** The Butler Bots serve drinks, collects tabs, and enforce house rules with polite efficiency

Illegal Activities in the Club
Although openly hosting cage fights, Nebula still operated within the gray zones of Firetown’s law. Many gladiators were settlers indebted to gangster bosses who forced them into the ring; some bookies rigged fights or extorted losers. Patrons could discreetly purchase performance ‑ enhancing stimulants from servers, and a back door allowed high‑stake gamblers to flee during Guarding Trooper raids. In rare cases, fighters arranged secret deals with bookies to throw matches in exchange for debt relief.

Public Access, Operating Hours & Operational Rhythm
* **Public Access:** Open to anyone willing to pay the door fee or place a bet.
* **Opening Hours:** 17:00 – 05:00 daily.
* **Operational Rhythm:** Fights ran continuously. Volunteers or enslaved gladiators challenged the towering Zark fighters in successive bouts. The club could host up to 500 guests per night, with the crowd ebbing and flowing between bouts.

* **Fight Registration**: Gladiator fights were scheduled before bar opening and listed on the chalkboard by fight number. Patrons who wanted to volunteer for additional matches had to speak with the fight manager after 17:00. If cleared, they were added to the board and given a fight number.

* **Identification & Betting:** All fighters — whether scheduled or spontaneous — waited in the numbered area, allowing bookies to take bets using the assigned numbers. The fight number system also helped the referee and announcer coordinate match progression throughout the night.
Security Measures
Even with its bloody entertainment, Nebula Nectar strove to avoid outright chaos:

* **Cage Enforcement:** The referee strictly enforced the rule: no weapons or outside interference. Any patron attempting to help a friend in the ring faced immediate expulsion.
* **Bouncer Patrols:** Three seasoned fighters from the Zark Tribe, armed with Melee-Weapons, watched the audience for cheat signals, weapons, or pickpockets.
* **Locked Doors:** All back‑of‑house areas and the cash cage were secured with mechanical locks.
* **Trooper Pay‑offs:** Regular bribes kept the Local Guarding Troopers from shutting down events prematurely.
* **Emergency Exits:** Hidden passages allowed quick escapes for staff and VIPs during raids.

Player Interaction Possibilities
Legal Interactions
* Bet on cage fights, cheer your favorite gladiator, and collect winnings if you’re lucky.
* Order drinks and watch bouts from the bar.
* Volunteer as a fighter to earn 500 Kourou by defeating a Zark opponent.

Illegal Interactions
* Purchase and administer stimulants to a gladiator before a fight (secret code required).
* Rig bets by colluding with bookies or bribing fighters to throw matches.
* Smuggle a indebted gladiator out through a hidden exit before the gang collects.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Nebula Nectar Fight Arena offers a gritty, high‑stakes setting for Beta‑Age campaigns. The cage’s 3 × 3 m size can turn brawls into claustrophobic duels. Consider imposing exhaustion on fighters between rounds, and remember that Zark opponents are taller and naturally stronger, challenging even well‑armed exohumans. The constant noise, flowing alcohol, and desperate gladiators provide ample hooks for diplomacy, deception, or daring rescues.

Adventure Hook Example
* **Debts of Honor –** A beloved NPC owes money to a ruthless gangster and has been forced into the gladiator queue at Nebula Fight Arena. The PCs are hired by the NPC’s family to ensure their relative survives. They must decide whether to fight in his place, sabotage the Zark opponents, or rig bets to pay off the debt …
