LAKE VIEW CEMETERY
 * **Type:** Site (cemetery)
 * **Location:** Southern bank of Lake Arla, 200 m east of Arla Town’s Public Services Ring
 * **Elevation:** Shoreline, ~20 m above lake level

Overview
Consecrated in September 2627, Lake View Cemetery served as the burial ground for Arla Town, a fishing settlement of ~300 residents. Settlers often said the deceased were laid “with a great view,” as the small plot overlooked the still waters of Lake Arla.

With only 12 graves in total, it was the smallest cemetery of the Free State of Settlers. The victims of the Great War raid on Arla Town in 2629 were not buried here — most perished in the fire, while the few remains recovered by the Volunteer Army of Man were interred in New Kourou, since Arla Town itself was lost.

Facts and Figures
 * **Established:** September 2627
 * **Clearing Work:** Reed beds cut back by settlers; timber markers set
 * **Footprint:** ≈ 300 m² (approx. 10 m × 30 m)
 * **Operational Period:** Sept 2627 – Apr 2631
 * **Interments:** 12 civilians
 * **Peak Burials:** 5 in 2628 (fishing accidents and early settlement hardship)
 * **Status (Gamma Age):** Exists but abandoned; unkempt and overgrown

Cultural and Strategic Importance
 * **Smallest Cemetery of the Free State:** Symbolized Arla Town’s provisional, close-knit character.
 * **“View of the Lake”:** Local saying emphasized peace for the departed, facing the waters that sustained the town.
 * **Lost Community Symbol:** After the Great War and Arla Town’s destruction, Lake View Cemetery became a forgotten relic of a vanished settlement.

Look and Feel
Beta Age (2627–2631)
A low fence of driftwood posts framed the plot, its rows of modest wooden crosses angled toward the lake. Wild reeds whispered in the twilight breeze, carrying the scent of fish smoke and damp watergrass. Small paths of crushed shell wound between graves, where families left carved trinkets, net floats, or dried flowers. Settlers sometimes lingered to watch the still surface of Lake Arla, believing the dead kept watch with them.

Gamma Age (post-2631)
The cemetery lies abandoned, its fence collapsed and its markers rotted or toppled. Moss covers the few remaining crosses, and reeds have overtaken the graves. Forgotten fishing floats bob in the shallows nearby, left as offerings decades ago. The lake still spreads wide before the site, but now it mirrors only emptiness — a view without mourners.

History / Legacy
 * **Construction:** Built with scavenged wood and stone; markers carved by relatives.
 * **Closure:** Abandoned after April 2631 when Peace Treaty law ended terrestrial burials.
 * **Survival:** Unlike Arla Town itself, the cemetery was never destroyed, but its neglect turned it into a place of silence and decay.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
**Beta Age Hook**

 * **"The Fisher’s Funeral":** A young fisher dies in a storm accident. PCs are tasked with protecting the funeral procession to Lake View Cemetery, as tensions rise between grieving families and Native scouts watching from across the reeds.

**Gamma Age Hook**

 * **“Echoes by the Lake”:** PCs searching the abandoned cemetery discover strange offerings on the graves — fresh flowers and trinkets placed by an unknown hand. Is it a survivor of Arla Town, a cultist honoring the lost, or someone using the site as a cover for illicit dealings on the lakeshore?
