GLOWFIN RAY
Overview
The Glowfin Ray is a flat, cartilaginous predator native to the volcanic shallows of Ralar Bay on the Dark Side of VOI 700 D. It is named for the distinct bioluminescent streaks that run along the edges of its fins, which pulse in flowing, aurora-like patterns while hunting.

The Glowfin Ray is a top-tier predator in the geothermal ecosystem, known for ambushing prey from beneath sandy vent deposits and stunning targets with a sudden flash of light.

Physique and Appearance
* **Size:** 1.5 to 2 meters wingspan
* **Weight:** 80–110 kg
* **Body Shape:** Flat, manta-like with broad fins and a tapered tail
* **Coloration:** Charcoal-black skin veined with faint obsidian-like cracks that shimmer when the body flexes
* **Eyes:** Reduced; relies mostly on vibration and light sensitivity

Special Features:
* Capable of emitting controlled pulses of bioluminescent light along fin edges, creating aurora-like waveforms to disorient prey
* Tail equipped with a hard, blunt spine used in ramming attacks; can emit faint geothermal heat shimmer when charged
* Lays dormant beneath sediment, rising with explosive force when prey is near

Game Mechanics
* **Armor Class (AC):** 14 (tough skin and speed)
* **Hit Points (HP):** 45
* **Speed:** 50 ft. (swimming), 10 ft. (burrow in sand)

Attacks
* **Bioluminescent Pulse:** Creatures within a 15 ft. cone must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom save or be blinded until the end of their next turn.
* **Ram Strike:** +6 to hit, 2d8+3 bludgeoning damage

Special Abilities
* **Flash Ambush:** When hidden in sand, gains advantage on initiative and its first attack.
* **Light Tracker:** Can sense movement from any bioluminescent organism within 60 ft.
* **Predator Illusion:** Fin pulses can mimic the shifting patterns of smaller prey schools, luring targets closer.

Behavior
* **Diet:** Carnivore; feeds on Deepfish, crustaceans, and smaller rays
* **Social Structure:** Solitary hunter
* **Activity Pattern:** Nocturnal ambusher, active during thermal surges

Survival Strategies
* Camouflages beneath geothermal sediment to avoid detection
* Uses aurora-like fin light pulses to confuse, blind, or lure bioluminescent prey
* Delivers ramming strikes with its heated spine when cornered

Reproduction and Lifecycle
Reproductive Traits
* **Mating Season:** Unknown; believed to be solitary except for mating
* **Birth:** Ovoviviparous; gives live birth to 1–3 offspring per cycle

Lifespan and Growth
* **Total Lifespan:** Estimated 20+ years
* **Juvenile Phase:** Young rays remain hidden in shallow tidepools until strong enough to hunt

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
Glowfin Rays are a threat-level encounter in geothermal zones, perfect for stealth-based or horror-themed aquatic adventures.

* **Vent Guardian:** A ray might defend a sulfur pool suspected of hiding ancient tech or forbidden relics.
* **Unexpected Predator:** The graceful aurora glow of its fins might first appear beautiful — then suddenly turn deadly.
