COIN PRESS AND MONEY PRINTING HOUSE OF THE FREE STATE
Overview
* **Location:** Civic Ring, New Kourou
* **Address:** NE Talara Road 3
* **Surroundings:** Situated adjacent to the Headquarters of the Central Bank of the Free State of Settlers.

The Coin Press and Money Printing House was a high-security operational facility of the Central Bank of the Free State of Settlers, the institution officially responsible for issuing the Kourou, the national currency. Active during the Beta Age, the building enabled the production and initial distribution of both copper coins and paper bills, marking a key milestone in the settlers’ economic self-determination.

The facility began operation in November 2625, six months after Day Zero, once the basic systems of barter had proven insufficient. With the introduction of the Communardism economic model by the Federal Confederation administration following the conclusion of the Peace Treaty with the Alliance of Native Tribes, the institution was permanently closed.

Architectural Significance
* **Construction Material:** Reinforced cargo containers from the Last Frontier with welded starship hull plating for maximum security.
* **Floors:** 1 above-ground, plus 1 reinforced basement level.
* **Design Purpose:** A compact, windowless structure with a single secured entrance; all critical production facilities were hidden in the basement for safety, secrecy, and temperature control.

The exterior’s stark, salvaged-metal appearance embodied the seriousness of monetary control and the settlers’ need for a tamper-proof environment.

Building Structure
**Ground Floor (Security & Administration):**

* **Security Checkpoint:** Full-body search zone operated under Guarding Bot supervision.
* **Material Intake Hatch:** Reinforced hatch used for delivering copper, ink, and paper stock (sealed directly to the basement lift).
* **Supervisor’s Office:** Oversaw operations, managed access logs, stored sealed quota reports.
* **Break Nook:** Minimal rest area for staff between shifts (no personal belongings allowed).
* **Restrooms (2):** Two restrooms for the staff, equipped with AuroraSan-System.
* **Maintenance Closet:** Tools for minor mechanical repairs.

**Basement Level (Production Floor):**

* **Printing Floor:** Equipped with rugged printing presses repurposed from spaceship components. Used to create Kourou paper bills.
* **Coin Molding Chamber:** Forging and stamping area for copper coins bearing Free State insignia.
* **Material Storage Room:** Secure room containing copper reserves, ink, paper stock, and replacement parts.
* **Basement Lift:** A single manually operated freight lift connecting the basement to the ground floor, locked by dual-authentication.
* **Ventilation Core:** Heat extractors and air scrubbers routed upward to concealed exhaust slits.

The basement layout allowed continuous production while minimizing ground-level risk.

Look and Feel
Inside, the Coin Press and Money Printing House felt more like a sealed bunker than a civic institution. The ground floor was dim, silent, and claustrophobic, lit only by narrow strip lights. Every surface echoed with the metallic austerity of welded cargo containers.

The basement was an entirely different world — loud, hot, and mechanical. The pounding rhythm of coin presses and the deep rumble of the bill-printing machines filled the air. The scent of machine oil, ink, warm copper, and recycled air filters created an atmosphere equal parts industrious and oppressive.

Strict security protocols and constant supervision cultivated a blend of duty, paranoia, and pride: the awareness that this underground hall was the beating heart of the Free State’s economy.

Roles and Responsibilities
* **Supervisor (1):** Oversaw all printing and coin-minting operations, verified quotas, maintained security logs.
* **Press Technicians (2):** Operated and repaired the printing presses.
* **Molding Specialists (2):** Heated, molded, and stamped copper coins.
* **Security Clerk (1):** Handled entry logs, cross-checked inventories, coordinated Guarding Bot patrol cycles.
* **Supply Handler (1):** Managed copper, ink, paper, and spare parts.
* **Inspection Assistant (1):** Performed quality checks on finished currency.

Public Access, Operating Hours and Operational Rhythm
* **Public Access:** None. Only clearance-level staff and Guarding Troopers were permitted.
* **Operating Hours:** Monday to Saturday, 8 am – 6 pm. Deliveries and audits occurred Wednesdays and Saturdays under escort.
* **Operational Rhythm:** Two non-overlapping shifts. Each shift required a closing audit and mandatory search upon exit. No personal items were permitted inside the facility.

Security Measures
The Coin Press and Money Printing House was one of the most secure locations in New Kourou:

* **Armed Guarding Bots:** Two Guarding Bots guarded the only entrance (both armed with Laser Guns). A third Bot patrolled the basement production floor.
* **Single-Entry Vault Design:** One door, reinforced with multiple locking systems and biometric verification.
* **Basement Isolation:** Production areas were accessible only through a secured freight lift requiring dual authentication.
* **Inventory Lockdown:** Copper, ink, and paper reserves were logged per gram and sheet.
* **Internal Weapon Ban:** No weapons allowed inside—even Guarding Troopers surrendered theirs before entering.

Player Interaction Possibilities (Legal and Illegal)
Legal Interactions:
* Investigate missing currency batches or quota discrepancies.
* Escort sensitive material shipments.
* Repair or stabilize malfunctioning press equipment.
* Interrogate staff regarding suspected corruption.
* Defend the facility during a riot, attack, or blackout.

Illegal Interactions:
* Attempt to break in to steal copper or counterfeit bills.
* Bribe staff for unrecorded print runs.
* Plant sabotage devices to halt production.
* Forge credentials to gain basement access.
* Replace genuine bills with forged ones.

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
The Coin Press is ideal for infiltration, espionage, and high-stakes sabotage missions:

* Uncover a conspiracy to destabilize the Free State economy.
* Reveal counterfeit operations run by corrupt insiders.
* Protect or evacuate materials during civil unrest.
