===== Overview =====

The Habitual Belt is one of the three Major Planetary Zones of [[the_planet_voi_700_d|VOI 700 D]], following the planet’s terminator line, where perpetual dusk prevails. It stretches around the entire circumference of the planet, serving as the only habitable region for both [[the_humans|Exohumans]] and the [[the_natives_tribes_of_voi_700_d|Native Tribes]].

Unlike the other two Major Planetary Zones, the [[desert_side|Desert Side]] and the [[dark_side|Dark Side]], which extend toward the poles, the Habitual Belt does not act as a dividing line but rather curves along the twilight zone, creating a narrow band of habitable land where temperatures and conditions are stable enough to support life. It occupies approximately 10% of the planetary surface, covering an area of 14.4 million square kilometers — roughly the size of Russia on [[the_earth|Earth]].

===== Climatic Conditions & Geography =====

The Habitual Belt has a total length of 21,200 kilometers and varies in width between 50 and 110 kilometers, averaging about 80 kilometers. It undulates around the planet and extends continuously around its entire circumference.

From south to north, the Habitual Belt consists of several distinct sections, each differing in climate, geography, and ecology. Each section — except for the pole sections — has a theoretical ‘twin’ on the opposite hemisphere, as proposed by the [[Twin-Section Hypothesis|Twin-Section Hypothesis]]. While general climatic conditions are expected to be similar, local environmental differences — such as mountain formations, river networks, and tectonic activity—create significant deviations between twin regions.

While the Twin-Section Hypothesis suggests that each Midbelt and Equatorial Section has a mirrored counterpart, this assumption is based on theoretical models rather than confirmed field data. Some regions, such as Revari, have been partially mapped, while others remain entirely uncharted terra incognita. Even in well-documented regions, local terrain variations, water systems, and geological factors create significant regional differences.

For example, [[asari|Asari]] and [[zilari|Zilari]] share an equatorial rainforest climate, while Revari and Zedari are both in the South Midbelt Section, yet only [[revari|Revari]] has been partially explored, while [[zedari|Zedari]] remains a complete mystery. This suggests that while the hypothesis holds in broad strokes, significant regional anomalies exist.

==== The (Twin-)Sections of the Habitual Belt: ====

  * **[[north_pole_section|North Pole section]] ([[north_pole_section|Mivari]]):** Covering about 9% of the Habitual Belt and stretching 2,600 kilometers, this region features a temperate-to-cold climate. Temperatures range between -20 and 5 degrees Celsius, with cooler conditions at higher altitudes and relatively milder temperatures at lower elevations.

  * **[[North Midbelt Sections East and West|North Midbelt Sections East and West]] ([[Nivari|Nivari]] and [[Yedari|Yedari]]):** Spanning from 75 to 45 degrees north latitude, these sections each cover 12% of the Habitual Belt, extending 2,400 kilometers. Their width varies from 80 to 110 kilometers. Temperatures generally range between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius, with cooler conditions in highland areas.

  * **[[equator_sections_east_and_west|Equator Sections East and West]] ([[asari|Asari]] and [[Zilari|Zilari]]):** Situated along the planetary equator from 45 degrees north to 45 degrees south, these sections are each 3,400 kilometers long, covering 17% of the Habitual Belt. Their climate is equatorial, characterized by high humidity and consistent temperatures between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius, with frequent convective precipitation patterns.

  * **[[South Midbelt Sections East and West|South Midbelt Sections East and West]] ([[Revari|Revari]] and [[Zedari|Zedari]]):** These sections mirror their northern counterparts, stretching from 45 to 75 degrees south latitude. Each covers 12% of the Habitual Belt and is about 2,400 kilometers long, with a width ranging between 80 and 110 kilometers.

  * **[[south_pole_section|South Pole Section]] ([[south_pole_section|Virari]]):** Extending from approximately 75 degrees south latitude to the South Pole, this section mirrors the North Pole Section in climate and size, covering 9% of the Habitual Belt with temperatures ranging between -20 and 5 degrees Celsius.

The unique twilight conditions of the Habitual Belt foster plant species that require minimal light for photosynthesis. The flora varies significantly across sections:

  * **North and South Pole Sections:** Hardy, cold-resistant plants dominate these regions. Many species have adapted to lower light levels and extreme cold.
  * **North and South Midbelt Sections:** Mixed forests dominate, interspersed with floodplains along the Arla River and its tributaries.
  * **Equator Sections:** The most diverse flora thrives here, featuring dense forests, plains, and unique ecosystems such as the [[orlanda_marshes|Orlanda Swamps]].

The Habitual Belt supports a diverse range of fauna adapted to its twilight conditions:

  * **Pole Sections:** Home to cold-adapted species that withstand freezing temperatures and low light.
  * **Midbelt Sections:** Inhabitants range from large herbivores in the floodplains to apex predators in mountainous areas.
  * **Equator Sections:** A wide array of species, including amphibious and arboreal creatures, thrive in the humid climate.
  * **Aquatic Ecosystems:** Major rivers, lakes, and marshlands sustain diverse fish, amphibians, and semi-aquatic predators, including species capable of both land-based and water-based hunting. Some species are known for their bioluminescent traits, helping them adapt to the twilight conditions of the Habitual Belt


===== Native and Exohuman population  =====

The Habitual Belt is the primary settlement zone for the [[the_natives_tribes_of_voi_700_d|Native Tribes]] and the only habitable region for [[the_humans|Exohumans]].

  * **Native Population:** Estimated at around 2.5 million across all sections.
  * **Exohuman Population:** Concentrated in the Eastern Equatorial Section ([[asari|Asari]]), where 30,000 humans live. The rest, numbering about 500, are scattered as [[outlaws|Outlaws]] or hermits.

==== Spreading of the Native Population====

  * **North Pole Section (Mivari):** due to colder and less habitable conditions, this section hosts only about 10% of the total native population (200.000 natives).

  * **North Midbelt Sections East and West (Nivari and Yedari):**  The two sections are each home to about 24% of the total population, or about 260.000 native people in each section.

  * **Equatorial sections East and West (Zilari and Asari):** due to their livability and availability of resources, the equatorial sections host 34% of the total population, which would be 300.000 native people in each section. In addition, the Eastern Aquatorial Section is home to 30,000 Exohumans who traveled here from Earth on the [[last_frontier|Last Frontier]] spacecraft. 

  * **South Midbelt Sections East and West (Revari and Zedari):** similar to the North Midbelt Sections, the sections host about 24% of the total population, about 520.000 Native people live in both sections.

  * **South Pole Section (Yivari):** Similar to the North Pole Section (Mivari), Virari is home to about 10% of the total Native population, totaling 250,000 Natives.

===== Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters =====

The Habitual Belt is the most diverse and narratively rich zone of VOI 700 D, offering Dungeon Masters a balance between the known and the unknown. While Exohumans have mapped some regions extensively, others remain unexplored or exist only in fragmented records. This makes the Habitual Belt a flexible setting for storytelling, where Dungeon Masters can incorporate detailed worldbuilding while also introducing unexpected discoveries.

When designing adventures, Dungeon Masters should consider the following key aspects:

  * **The Twin-Section Hypothesis as a Baseline** – While some environmental similarities exist between twin regions, significant variations and anomalies allow for creative interpretations.
  * **The Political Divide Between the Beta and Gamma Age** – The Beta Age was defined by Exohuman expansion, while the Gamma Age is shaped by the Peace Treaty’s strict territorial boundaries. The era in which a story takes place will determine the level of Exohuman presence and the nature of conflicts within the region.
  * **The Balance Between Science and Mystery** – Some regions are well-documented with detailed maps and scientific records, while others remain a blank slate. Dungeon Masters should maintain a balance between realism and the unknown, allowing players to feel like pioneers while staying grounded in the setting’s established rules.
==== Beta Age (2625–2631) – The Era of Settlement and War ====

The [[beta_age|Beta Age]] is defined by rapid human settlement, early clashes with Native Tribes, and the brutal [[great_war|Great War]] (2629–2631). The Asari Region in the Habitual Belt is the key battleground and a hotbed of frontier survival.

  * **"The Twilight Pioneers" –** A group of settlers has gone missing while trying to establish a farm in the Northern Midbelt Section. The players must find out whether they were attacked by Natives, devoured by predators, or simply unprepared for the harsh reality of the Habitual Belt.
  * **"The Hunters of Orlanda" –** A rare species in the [[orlanda_marshes|Orlanda Swamps]] is highly valued for its hide and medicinal properties. The players must decide whether to hunt it for profit, protect it from poachers, or negotiate with the [[the_orlanda|Orlanda Tribe]] over its conservation.
  * **"The Silent Guns" –** A unit of [[volunteer_army_of_man|Volunteer Army of Man]] soldiers is stranded in the [[atrana_mountains|Atrana Mountains]] in the Asari Region, their laser guns drained of power. The players must either rescue them, steal their remaining weapons, or ensure they don’t fall into enemy hands.

==== Gamma Age (starting 2631) ====

The [[the_gamma_age|Gamma Age]] is defined by strict weapon regulations, black-market trades, and uneasy peace under the [[federal_confederation|Federal Confederation]]. 

  * **"The Refugee of War" –** A former soldier of the [[volunteer_army_of_man|Volunteer Army of Man]] fled the Asari Region after a traumatic battle with the [[alliance_of_native_tribes|Alliance of Native Tribes]] during the [[great_war|Great War]]. The [[federal_sheriff|Federal Sheriff]] has received intelligence that he’s hiding in the border region of Nivari. The players must track him down to bring him back to his family.
  * **"The Trade Route Conspiracy"** – The[[trade_route| Trade Route]] between [[Morningstar|Morningstar]] and [[hope|Hope]] has been safe for years — until now. A new [[outlaws|Outlaw]] group from the [[ralar_region|Ralar Region]] has successfully raided [[federal_courier_caravans|Federal Courier Service caravans]] more than seven times in recent weeks. The Federal Sheriff suspects an inside informant within the courier service, but no leads have been confirmed. The players are tasked with tracking down the Outlaw group’s hideout, uncovering how they always seem one step ahead, and deciding what to do with their findings. Is this just a criminal enterprise—or the sign of a larger rebellion brewing beneath the surface?
