FEDERAL GEOTHERMAL POWER PLANT
Overview
* **Location:** Outside Firetown’s Town Wall, Ralar Region
* **Address:** Energy Park, 1 km from Main Gate
* **Surroundings:** Nestled south of the (Federal) Copper Mine and north of the Federal Prison (Gamma Age only), adjacent to the Firetown QFRS and Firetown's Tier 1 Energy Redistribution Node

The Federal Geothermal Power Plant (former Geothermal Power Plant) harnesses the subterranean heat of Ralar Volcano to supply Firetown’s core industries and residences with electricity and district heat. Erected in the early Beta Age but now operating under the Federal Confederation's Federal Allotment Agency in the Gamma Age, it remains Firetown’s primary energy source — powering the Federal Copper Mine, Federal Prison, Firetown's municipal grid, and the adjacent Tier 1 Energy Redistribution Node — within the strict generation limits imposed by the Peace Treaty.

The plant has a generation capacity of 20 MW, providing continuous output (≈175 GWh per year) under its treaty-limited operating envelope. It is supplemented by biogas from the Federal Organic Waste Recycling Plant of Firetown, which contributes roughly 4,536 kWh daily (≈ 1.65 GWh per year), ensuring stability even during peak demand.

History
* **Construction:** Broke ground mid-2627 as part of Firetown’s industrial build-out
* **Great War Impact**: Continued operation despite regional conflict with the Alliance of Native Tribes (2629–2631)
* **Gamma Age Oversight:** Post-Peace Treaty, management transferred from ExoHuman syndicates to the Federal Allotment Agency to enforce equitable energy allocation

Architectural Significance
* **Materials:** The plant is assembled from stacked industrial cargo containers, reinforced with salvaged spaceship hull plating from the Last Frontier. Containers are partially sunk into volcanic ground to stabilize them against tremors and wind shear.
* **Design:** Entirely functional and deliberately inelegant. Every visible element communicates heat, pressure, and risk — the architecture of necessity rather than planning.
* **Wells & Loops:** Dual‐well extraction system with surge‐buffer tanks and pre-insulated heating ducts
Building Structure
**Perimeter & Exterior Systems**

* Steam Yard:Open-air container cluster with exposed pipes, pressure buffers, and vent stacks. Constant steam discharge creates dense fog banks in cold conditions.
* Maintenance Walkways: Wooden and steel catwalks connecting turbine housing, valve clusters, and inspection points.
* Guard Post: Reinforced container at the main gate, housing a Guarding Bot and checkpoint controls.

**Heat Extraction Wing (Container Block A)**

* Houses wellheads, pressure regulators, and primary steam collectors
* Oversized surge tanks buffer pressure spikes

**Turbine Hall (Container Block B)**

* Three tandem turbines rated at 7 MW each
* Emergency bypass lines allow manual dump of excess steam
* Control & Monitoring Center
* “Situation Room” with cross-linked SCADA consoles
* Analog backup panels and manual overrides for treaty-mandated fail-safe

**Control & Monitoring Center (Container Block C)**

* SCADA consoles and analog backup panels.
* Manual override levers required by treaty-mandated fail-safe regulations.
* Observation slits and reinforced porthole windows facing the turbine hall.

**Maintenance Bay (Container Block C)**

* Heavy-duty repair pits beneath turbine shafts
* Parts storage for seals, gaskets, and precision drill bits
* Staff Quarters & Facilities
* Break rooms with thermal bunks warmed by waste steam
* Locker rooms and combined men’s/women’s AuroraSan restrooms

Look and Feel
A low, constant rumble vibrates through the stone corridors as high-pressure steam pulses through buried conduits. The air is thick with mineral-sharp warmth and the tang of ozone where turbines spin. Fat droplets of condensate drip from overhead pipes onto grated catwalks, hissing as they strike hot metal. Walls glow faintly from integrated heat-trace lighting, casting shadows that dance with every hiss and click of pressure valves. The rhythmic throb of generator bearings underlies the occasional clang of maintenance tools and the distant echo of deputies’ boots on stone. In the staff quarters, the scent of brewed tea offers brief comfort against the ever-present scent of sulfur and lubricant. Outside, winter-tough shrubs cling to rocky outcrops, their brittle leaves rattling in the chilled wind driven off the plant’s cooling towers. Occasionally, the ground trembles with muted tremors — a reminder of Ralar’s ever-restless power beneath.

Roles and Responsibilities
* **Plant Manager (1):** Oversees production, treats with Federal Allotment Agency
* **Geothermal Engineers (8):** Monitor well integrity and steam quality
* **Turbine Operators (10):** Control and adjust turbine load profiles
* **Maintenance Technicians (12):** Perform mechanical repairs, seal swaps
* **QA Inspectors (4):** Audit environmental compliance and treaty adherence
* **Administrative Staff (3):** Handle logs, shift rosters, and allotment reporting
* **Cleaning Staff (4):** Cleans the facility.

Public Access & Operations
* **Access Level:** Restricted – no civilian entry
* **Operational Hours:** 24/7 in three shifts per day (06:00–14:00, 14:00-22:00, 22:00-06:00)

Security Measures
* **Perimeter Wall:** 3 m volcanic-stone barrier with spike-topped parapet
* **Controlled Entry:** Security gates with entry control
* **Analog Alarm System:** The Analog Alert System is a direct line to Local Sheriff
* **Deputy Patrols:** Deputies of the Local Sheriff, assigned to Firetown's energy sector; rotate every 6 hours

Player Interaction Possibilities
Legal Interactions
* Get assigned to the Power Plant as staff by GAIA
* Bring spare parts as staff of the Federal Courier Service
* Go to work as part of the workforce
* Guard the Plant as Deputy of the Local Sheriff

Illegal Interactions
* Sabotage a turbine to create a power shortage
* Steal high-pressure pipe sections for illicit boiler rigs

Tactical Advice for Dungeon Masters
* **Allotment Heist** – Outlaws have bribed one of the geothermal engineers and plan to divert energy to a secret weapons factory. The Federal Sheriff in New Kourou has only heard rumors about this and sends the PCs on a secret undercover mission to the power plant as workers so they can find out more...
